Well, it has been quite a long time since I posted any new articles on my website. I would like to begin 2023 with a new post and a meditation. The intention in my classes as the new year began is and was on self care, self-love. Not the type of self care from getting a spa treatment or such, not that that is not wonderful, but the kind of self care that reaches deeper, much deeper into our core and lasts a lifetime.
So let’s start right now by taking a comfortable seat (sukasana). This seat can be in a chair, cross legged on the floor or on your back. Only you can define comfortable in your body today. Once you have your seat, then start to slowly bring attention to your breath and begin to follow your inhales and exhales. Notice the quality of your breath. Is it smooth, fast, slow, jumpy, rough, hot, cold? Just notice, get curious as you begin to develop the mind of the witness, the observer with no judgement(s). When you are ready, begin to ask yourself; “what self care, self love means to me”?
Start to get ready to bring the question of self care, self love into your core by allowing your eyes to soften, allowing your gaze to move downward. Stay with your conscious breathing and let the question and any answer(s) rise if they are present. Don’t search with the thinking mind, just allow. Continue with your breath and surrender to the question. Now close your eyes and stay present, surrender to the thinking mind.
Stay in this meditation as long as you like and revisit it as much as you like.
